INDIANA (WNDU) – NIPSCO reported that 172,000 customers remain without power as of 9 p.m. CT on Friday, Aug. 14.
The company is calling this the largest outage event in its history.
The outages came after this week’s derecho storm and severe weather. According to NIPSCO, 145,000 customers’ power has been restored since Tuesday’s storm.
More than 60% of NIPSCO’s customers were without power at the outage’s peak.

NIPSCO’s estimated power restoration timeline:
- Around 90% of power restored by Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 11:59 p.m.
- Around 100% of power restored by Friday, Aug. 21, at 11:59 p.m.
- Community-specific restoration estimates expected Sunday evening, Aug. 16
The company said that restoration timelines remain subject to change.
