ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Moisture will increase across North Georgia from Friday through the weekend, bringing scattered to numerous storms with rain and thunderstorm chances climbing significantly. Heat index values will climb into the triple digits.
Tonight: Isolated Storms Possible
Isolated showers and storms remain possible heading into tonight, but any evening plans should be in pretty good shape. Low temperatures will fall into the low to mid 70s with a warm start Friday morning.
Friday: Scattered Storms
Moisture will increase across North Georgia Friday, bringing scattered thunderstorms from afternoon through early evening.
Some of the heavier storms could produce higher rainfall totals, particularly over the central and northern portions of North Georgia. While severe weather risk remains relatively low, a few storms could produce strong gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall.
Rain chances are 40-50% across North Georgia.
Saturday: Higher Rain Chances
A frontal boundary will approach North Georgia Saturday morning and move southward through the day. Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to continue off-and-on through the day. There will be periods when it is not raining, but an umbrella is still going to be a great idea.
Temperatures will reach the upper 80s to low 90s despite increased cloud cover.
Sunday and Beyond: Drying Out, Still Warm
The frontal boundary will stall near the I-85 corridor Saturday night, with isolated afternoon pulse thunderstorms expected Sunday closer to that boundary. Temperatures will warm into the low to mid 90s.
Humid conditions and above average temperatures will persist into early next week with heat index values in the triple digits Monday through Wednesday.
